Emergency cases

For toothache and other problems: Our emergency service is there for you

Toothache, broken teeth or loose teeth usually occur when it is least convenient. We do not offer emergency services at weekends, on public holidays or at night. During these times or in case of absence (holidays), please contact the University Dental Surgery Innsbruck.

Toothache is an important physical signal that there is a health problem with your teeth or jaw. Therefore, you should by no means ignore these health problems, but contact our practice. We leave no stone unturned to provide you with professional support as quickly as possible for urgent problems that cannot be postponed.

Our emergency service for your dental health

If possible, please contact us in advance by phone or email. After you have contacted us and made an appropriate arrangement with us, we will try to minimise waiting times. In case of deviating consultation hours, we will leave you a message on our answering machine. Alternatively, we will provide you with all important information on our homepage. In addition, we provide you with our online appointment system.

Emergency – what to do?

If your cheek swells or you suffer from severe toothache, you should contact our emergency dental service immediately. If you cannot alleviate a severe throbbing toothache that increases during the night with painkillers, this discomfort should also be treated by us immediately.

Tips for tooth preservation after an accident or dental trauma

If a tooth is partially or completely broken as a result of an accident or dental trauma, it is best to store it in a Dentosafe tooth rescue box. This will protect the tooth for about 24 hours. Drying out of the tooth must be avoided at all costs. Storage in UHT milk is only possible for a few hours. Common salt is critical because of the missing nutrients. If you contact us immediately, it may still be possible to save the tooth.

If your gums are bleeding, you may have gingivitis. Good oral hygiene with daily cleaning of the interdental spaces with dental floss or interdental brushes is essential so that the gums can heal. If you have a minor gum infection, you should use a mouth rinse with chlorhexidine as an ingredient. However, because gum inflammation can develop into periodontitis, you should definitely have the cause of the inflammation clarified by our dentist. After contacting our emergency service, we can start treatment at an early stage. At the same time, our emergency service is there for you if bleeding occurs after a tooth removal. This recommendation applies to you especially if you cannot stop the bleeding by cooling or with a cloth handkerchief.

Loosening of crowns, bridges or inlays

If a crown, bridge or inlay becomes loose, you can use denture bonding cream or toothpaste to tighten the denture. Please be careful not to swallow or even aspirate the denture. If the temporary hold is poor, do not reinsert the denture. Call or write to our emergency service so that we can make an appointment immediately. Do you need more information about our emergency service? Our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
