Restoration therapy
Filling therapy to treat caries
At the beginning of caries, the disease attacks the hard tissue of the tooth. This process usually continues over a longer period of time, during which the enamel and the dentin are increasingly affected. In the worst cases, caries also attacks the pulp and nerves.
This disease is the best-known threat to teeth, occurring primarily on the chewing surfaces of the molars in children and more in the interdental spaces in adults. If dark spots appear on the teeth, the disease is already in an advanced stage and must be treated urgently. Therefore, early treatment of affected areas is particularly important for the preservation of healthy tooth substance.
Avoid tooth decay – through regular check-ups
You can achieve this goal with regular check-ups at the dentist, which you should carry out at least once a year. If we discover white spots as a precursor to caries during the examination, we can usually still stop the decalcification of the tooth enamel. In this case, “drilling” is unnecessary. If the disease is already in an advanced stage, a filling therapy is usually indispensable.
Your advantages through a filling therapy with us
- Thanks to precise anaesthesia, the removal of caries is mostly painless today. We only use modern and well-tolerated materials for filling therapy. When carrying out a successful filling therapy, our dentist naturally strives to restore the diseased tooth completely to its original form, both functionally and aesthetically. In a direct restoration – the so-called filling therapy – we use a composite filling. Aesthetic factors play an important role in this form of tooth-coloured filling therapy. A great advantage of composite filling therapy is the wide range of colours, which lays the foundation for an almost invisible restoration. By applying the filling in several layers and hardening it with a special light, this filling therapy usually only requires one session.
- In case of extensive destruction of the tooth structure, we recommend a technical restoration with ceramic or gold. If a partial crown or crown is required, ceramic fillings are even more durable than composite. Ceramic fillings in particular can also be individually matched to your tooth colour on request. In addition, crowns and partial crowns made of gold are also characterised by their high stability, which permanently withstands high chewing pressure.
How can caries be prevented?
Common causes of tooth decay are poor dental hygiene and a high-sugar diet. In addition, individual factors such as low salivary flow or low mineralised tooth enamel favour the development of the disease. The best way to prevent tooth decay is with thorough and regular oral hygiene. Therefore, you should generally brush your teeth at least twice a day for three minutes each time. Use either interdental brushes or dental floss to remove plaque from the gum line and interdental spaces. Would you like further advice on topics such as caries or filling therapy?
